What is homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy is about
patterns
the body’s ability to heal itself
and similarity.
Homoeopaths look for patterns in the way our bodies respond to external stresses - whether they are physical, mental, emotional or spiritual - which express themselves through symptoms.
We discover patterns in the sort of things that make us sick, either because we were born with that way, developed a particular weakness, or we are constantly exposed to something that disturbs our health. Patterns develop in the brain and connect sensations, events and emotions, creating a pathway our body remembers, for example in pain. We reveal these patterns even in the way we talk about our illnesses, because our language is a reflection of how we understand the world.
Your homoeopath understands the body’s ability to heal itself in a holistic way. There is no debate in healthcare about the body’s remarkable ability to promote its own health through self-regulation, adaption, discharge, regeneration, and natural immune and autoimmune responses (for examples of these, read the download “The Body’s Healing Processes”). There are, however, a lot of treatments which do not respect these natural processes. Homoeopaths aim to stimulate, not stifle or suppress, the body’s ability to heal.
When a homoeopath knows enough about the full range of your symptoms and your body’s patterns of response, they will prescribe a remedy noted for its “similarity”. This means, that when tested (on human beings only), the remedy has demonstrated its ability to heal that range, that pattern of symptoms. Your homoeopath wants your prescription to be the best possible match for your full range of symptoms, and will usually only give one medicine.
