Geoff Johnson at NWCH Sunday January 10th
What is it like to be a Creature of the Sea?
An interactive session to explore
1.What is common to patients needing animal remedies?
2.What is common to and what are the major themes of sea remedies?
3.How can we get the source to reveal itself in the consultation?
Geoff will look at animals in their natural habitat and relate that to the symptoms of the patient. We will explore the molluscs, including bivalves, gastropods and cephalopods. Also the cetaceans – whale and dolphin. The sponges, corals and crustaceans. All the teaching will be case led, with mainly cured human cases (a few veterinary ones for fun!).
Geoff worked in many veterinary practices before becoming the owner of a mixed Exmoor practice in 1992. He started homoeopathy in 1995 and quickly became passionate about its exploration and practice. He studied for three years with the Homeopathic Practitioners Teaching Group in Oxford and became the 20th Vet to achieve the VetMFHom. In response to happy owners asking for treatment for themselves Geoff took the examinations and eventually registered with the Society of Homoeopaths to become the first person to be qualified as a veterinary and human homoeopath.
He never stops studying, and is himself a sought after teacher nationally and internationally for homoeopaths, doctors, vets and farmers. His greatest passion at the moment is working with the Sensation method, which he regards as being the most important evolution in homoeopathy since the Organon. One interest is working out how to apply the methods of Scholten and the Bombay School to animals as well as people. This is an ongoing, fascinating, rewarding and lonely exploration!
TIMETABLES
The college timetables for Sept. to Jan. are now available on the web site. To reach them go to www.nwch.co.uk go to club and put in the user name(amber)and password(amber)and go to timetables!
The rest of the year’s timetables will follow during this week so please visit regularly.
Please understand that some changes may occur to timetables as the year advances due to unforeseen events which arise in all the undertakings of human beings. You will also observe that there are some spaces left in the later timetables to cover matters which arise during the year. So please always check with the college. We will also post any changes on the web site and in the pertinent Vital Times and send out finalised timetables to students staff and supervisors/clinicians before each month.
WEBSITE
There will be a completely new web site available shortly but don’t worry the address will not change, you will still be able to find us. It will look different,we hope you think better. We will also be more easily able to keep it up to date and, as time goes on, to use it to interact with our students . One of the early advances will be the ability for you to pay us for seminars, etc. on line via "pay pal." So please visit the college web site and see how things are developing.
CPD PICK & MIX
As you hopefully already know NWCH is introducing a new kind of pick and mix for its CPD lectures this year.
There are three elements.
Element 1. Six CPD Sundays with special lectures and guest speakers for 4 hours. You can attend any or all of these. There are good discounts if you sign up to all of the them in advance
Element 2 Reflective group supervision. 2 hours every other month. This is a really great way of experiencing reflective supervision. You are asked to commit to the whole series in order to gain full benefit from it. This will be of special use to those of you who are producing CPD portfolios for SOH but we can recommend it to anyone who is looking for (more) supervision and thinks that the stimulus of working in a group is what they need and could enjoy. The group facilitator will be Andy Kirk RSHom who has many years experience working as a supervisor for both SOH and the college
Element3. An invitation to sign up for any lecture of any weekend. Again you can get a huge discount by paying a global sum up front which entitles you to drop in when ever you like, or you can book and pay for individual hours. This last element gives you the opportunity to fill in any gaps you have in your knowledge, regardless of what year it is being taught to. It also means you can hear more of certain speakers.
Highlights of this include A whole weekend of Geoff Johnson in January: CPD Sunday is described above but he will also talk about Series 3 of the Periodic Table of elements and compositae, ranunculae and cactae. Also you can hear David Mundy in November and March talking about bird remedies, Chinese diagnoses, magnesiums and much else: Consider the opportunity to learn about how to use spreadsheets as a research tool from Carolyn Garland, or to explore the importance of Chlamydia as a factor in patients' lives and as a remedy with Lynda Kenyon.
Would you like to know more about various aspects of Scholten’s approach to the Table of Elements, or look at plants, with some guidance from Sankaran,in their family groups.
Are you wondering how "the Sankaran method" works in practice? Not sure whether you want to explore it in depth or not? Come and listen to Gurmej Virk give an introduction and then see him take a live case and lead you through his analysis?
All this and more is available for you to ‘pick and mix’ as you wish. Just explore the timetables and see what interests you. If you need more information send us an email and we will do our best to answer your queries. Price lists are displayed elsewhere in this newsletter. These are advanced booking prices so book now before they go up?
Highlight for September- Lynda Kenyon talking about how Chlamydia manifests as a health problem in our patients and the role of the remedy Chlamydia in treatment. She has worked closely with the Bulgarian homoeopath Mario Boyadjiev who has worked with over 100 patients in this field.
There is no CPD in October but you are welcome to come to any of the lectures. You especially might be interested in attending Carolyn’s exploration of the use of spreadsheets as a research tool in deepening our understanding of treating patients with coughs and colds. She will be building on this throughout the year as she explains this work in relation to various other groups of patients.
Highlight for November- Come and learn more about the Circle with David Mundy. If you are new to the subject you can attend also his introductory lecture to the 4th years on Saturday. You can also spend the whole weekend listening to his particular approach to the magnoliae family the magnesiums or even apis etc.
Again December is not a CPD month but you might like to come and listen to Jim Rogers exploring the treatment of addiction .
Study the timetables and you will find many other gems you might want to investigate.
Looking ahead to the New Year the very popular homoeopath and homoeopathic vet Geoff Johnson will be with us for the whole weekend in January. His interesting and well illustrated lectures are always a treat . He will be presenting human cases most of the weekend but he will do a live case with a dog on Sunday morning. See the timetable for the full details.
PROVINGS
The college is doing a further proving this year. The proving director will be Angie Zelter. We hope to involve participants from outside of the college. If you would like to take part we invite you to attend college for the last lecture of the day on Sunday Feb 7th to learn about the protocol and be a paired supervisor with prover. The main proving will then run until March 6th when we would invite you to join us on Saturday at college at 9-00am to report back. The final analysed results will be presented in July. These sessions are of course free. If you need to discuss this before deciding or if you want to be involved but cannot make the meeting in February please email Angie Zelter.
We are also working to analyse and write up the robin and pigeon proving which some of us were involved in a few years ago. If you were a supervisor or prover for either of these and would be willing to give a few hours of your time to help us please let Ffrances Wharton know. If you weren’t involved then but would like to help see two provings reach the light of day then please contact
likewise. hawthorn@gerlan.net
Calling all Robins and Pigeons
We are going to begin the process of collating the information from the proving done in 2005/6 at the NWCH.
Anyone interested who was involved in the proving either as a prover or supervisor is very welcome to join the team
If you were not involved in the proving but would like some experience in handling the organisation and collation of a proving please join us.
We are aiming to meet face to face in the first term of college, exchange emails and share out the proving diaries, then get on with the task. Any work undertaken by current students will be acknowledged by the Board and will contribute to the course criteria, it can also be used by graduates as a CPD/portfolio task for SoH registration.
